The Mare: Shy
Exotic
Visual Exam
Physical
condition and Rating: Her physical condition is GREAT!
Her physical condition rating is a 6. (Normal rating 5-7 range)
Comment: She is a healthy mare
and is a good candidate for breeding.
The Inner Mare
This is where we
do an assessment of the inner membranes (perineum, vagina, cervix, ovaries and the uterus.)
Perineum Inspection: (This is where we look for the ‘Windsucking defect.) This
test involves spreading the lips of the vulva and listening for the characteristic noise of air rushing into the vagina. Indicate here what was found. NO sign of
Windsucking.
Rectal Palpation of ovaries and uterus: NORMAL.
Texture of the uterus: Normal
Uterine Horns: Normal
Fallopian tubes: Normal
Vaginal Scope: Looking for abnormalities such as discharge or urine pooling. We’ll
also observe the cervix for tears or adhesions. List your findings here:
No discharge was found. No urine pooling. There were no tears or adhesions of the cervix.
The Ultrasound
Results: No problems
were found; She did well with this part of the exam.
Cultures and
Cytology report:
Uterus culture: (Positive or negative results) The culture will check for the
presence of infectious organisms. A positive culture doesn’t always mean the mare has a uterine infection. NEGATIVE
Uterine Cytology: Is done to see if there are inflammatory cells in the uterus.
(this indicates infection). NEGATIVE
Endometrial biopsy: (Vet removes a piece of the lining of the uterus for analysis.
It determines whether there is scarring or inflammation of the uterus. There are categories for determining whether your mare
will become pregnant or not. Category 1 uterus: 80-90% chance of pregnancy. Category 2a: 50% - 80% chance, Category 2b: 10%-50%
chance and Category 3: is a less than 10% chance of becoming pregnant. Your mare has a _______CATEGORY 1_________
uterus and has a _80-90%________ chance of becoming pregnant.
Hormonal Assessment:
This is done by blood test and was Normal.
Overall: I look
forward to working with Shy Exotic during the breeding and pregnancy process. She is a good candidate for breeding.
